I think that was a great overview of farming but I don't think it was all that realistic except for our enormous farms. C'mon out and I'll show you how hard it really is to produce a crop, using the modern farm of circa 1980s... ;)
Ha it was meant to show how things work in general and give an overview. Of course every farm situation will be different and different crops and equipment but hopefully it was a good introduction to how farming works in a general sense if nothing else.
Btw, one cool thing I don't know if you realize: you probably noticed two different colors of seed in the bag. The reddish is the multi-stacked variety of seed with all the traits built in. The bluish/purple seed are the same variety without those inserted traits. The latter are considered a "refuge"; it helps reduce the development of resistance to the traits by giving pests a small portion of the crop they can "enjoy" while being excluded from the bulk. Farmers used to be required to plant a separate refuge for this purpose; now it's included in the bag!
They actually explained that to me when we opened the bag cause I asked what the purple ones were 😂 Unfortunately, there was a LOT I had to cut. But appreciate you sharing!
